Real Estate in Costa Rica is a learning experience. Learning began in the Northern California market in 1998 when I acquired my Real Estate license. The learning never stops, every Real Estate transaction is different and always in need of professional assistance. In California where Real Estate is an old profession help is always available. In Costa Rica, it is a much more challenging. The assistance of local knowledge and a trusted lawyer is a big necessity. Four years and many transaction have taught me many things and of course through every transaction we learn more. Knowledge of the Northern California Real Estate market has taught me that anywhere you go, Ethics is the most important element to follow. I do my job well and word always goes around resulting in clients returning and referring me to their family and friends.

Of course learning goes to everything we experience in a new environment. Our farm was in need of reforestation and after 4 years we have learned how to grow native trees with seeds from the existing bits of forest left on our 27 acres, soon to be an oxygen generating factory. We are also growing much of our daily foods.

We are doing our little bit; by planting trees, only traveling when we must and if we do need to drive, sharing with clients, and neighbors. Our diesel truck runs on used cooking oil for fuel. We take the bus when going on long trips. We only purchase necessities. We cut the grass with a hand pushed mower, and use solar power to pump water from the well into an elevated pond from which to irrigate by gravity during the summer. I wash clothes by hand as much as possible, using only the basic electric appliances when necessary, etc…etc…Even though most of the electricity in this country is renewable hydro-electric and Geo-thermal and wind, we still try to conserve as much as possible.

William Turley: Sales Associate

With more than four years of residency in Costa Rica under my belt, and four years of growing up in Mexico, my facility of the Spanish language enables me to converse with the local Ticos, bringing properties with real value to the market. Occasionally these first time offered, for sale properties, gives you, the buyer, an opportunity to acquire a piece of the tropics at affordable prices.

We personally own three adjacent parcels measuring 6.9, 11.7, and 8.8 Acres each. Our home is on the 8.8 Acre parcel and we have planted over 1,500 trees in the four years we’ve been here. It is our intention to continue reforesting as much area as possible with native hardwood, fruit, and Jatropha trees, in a random fashion to keep diversity in the forest. Jatropha is a native species that was effectively wiped out by the cattle farmers that converted forest into pasture. It is currently recognized as a source of bio-fuel used with or in lieu of diesel. We have been burning vegetable oil in our ’92 Dodge Ram Pickup Truck with a 5.9L Cummins diesel engine ever since driving to Costa Rica from California in 2004, and will soon be growing enough of our own oil to be self sufficient. The other two parcels have water and electricity available with paved highway frontage and 360 degree views of the valley and volcanoes, and are available to purchase.

I originally started selling real estate in California in 1965, and since completed my academic career with a B.A. in Physics and an M.A. in Physical Science from the University of California, San Diego. My Master’s Thesis, “Ocean Wave Driven Air Pump” was built and tested in the Scripps Oceanographic Institute’s wave tank, and demonstrated the feasibility of extracting energy from ocean waves. Prior to moving to Costa Rica, I was the VP and RMO of Advanced Alternative Energy Solutions responsible for the design and installation of Photovoltaic Arrays, Wind Power Generating Systems, and Solar Hot Water Systems.

I welcome everyone with the vision to support sustainable development and the restorations of the land. Together, we can make a difference.
